[glow=blue,2,300]Role Playing Guide [/glow]
Okay to a lot of people RP is a relatively new experience so this is just a guide to help you through the basics and to let you know what some of those strange, strange abbreviations are
First of, creating a character
~ What do they look like?
To correctly RP (Role Play) a character then you must have a clear image in your mind of them. What is the shade of their skin, does it tan? What is their hair colour, is it bushy, is it straight, is it curly? What is their eye colour? Do they have a mole on their left cheek? What do they usually wear? You should be able to describe them as well as if you were to describe yourself when looking in a mirror
~ Their personality
This is another thing that your character needs to have down-pat. You need to have all their little quirks and mannerisms there in your mind. What are their talents? What are the absolutely pathetic at? Not everyone is a star seeker and an A+ student. Does you character have an undying love of stripy things like mine or an undying hatred of sunglasses. How would they react in different situations? Personally, I find it easier to partially base you character on yourself, simple because you know how you would react. You don¡¦t have to work out every tiny miniscule detail because those come in time, sometimes you might see a situation and create another chapter in your characters life. Think about how sometimes when you see something it triggers a memory of their own. Maybe if they see a broomstick it might remind them of that time they fell of?
~ Their age, your character should be Hogwarts age (11 ¡V 18)
~ Their ancestry.
Do they come from a long line of Pure Blood supremacist? Or a loving Half Blood family? Or are they a Muggleborn, new to the sights and sounds of the magical world?
~ Their History.
Did they grow up in the country, the city, do they have siblings? Were they expected to get a letter to Hogwarts? As you role-play more you can add things to this part but try and get a decent sized history up there in your noggin.
~ Their name
This is a fairly obvious one; if you can¡¦t think of a name try a baby name website or something like that.
They next step. Posting
~ When you RPing use third person
Good: Cedeira paced quickly through the deserted corridors of Hogwarts
Bad: I walk fast, my foot steps echoed through the deserted halls.
~ Always reSorcerer to add lots of detail, reSorcerer we knew next to nothing about your character and even though you have it planed in your mind we can¡¦t see that.
Bad: She walked down the hall.
Good: Her petite feet made little to no noise as she padded down the deserted hallway, her green eyes constantly darted around looking for any disturbances.
~ Use proper Grammar. Please
Please just run things through word and edit a bit, it doesn¡¦t have to be perfect but just use basic sentence structure and things like talking in quotation marks.
~ Do not Godmode
Godmoding is when you RP someone else¡¦s actions, reSorcerer that person is not you therefore you have no say over how they react.
Bad: walking into the room he felt his confidence rising as everyone turned to face him. (The other people might not look at her)
Good: walking into the room he felt a little nervous, she hoped that at least someone would look at her.
~ OOC and BIC
of you wish to post a comment that is Our Of Character or OOC place it at the end of your reply and follow it up with a Back In Character or BIC try and make these as small as possible because that aren¡¦t really needed often and if you wish to have an OOC discussion with them either PM them or place it in a OOC thread.
~ The Horrible, Horrible Spam
Spam is the bane of RPing, it is tiny little two to three line posts that contain none of the necessary things used in RP. Do. Not. Spam. Most posts should be at the very least 3 to 4 lines and even they there has got to be something you can add, even if it is just you character fiddling with their hair.
~ Overall
When you RPing try and describe
- Yourself
- Your surroundings
- What you are doing
- Why you are doing it
- How you are doing it
- And how are you feeling whilst doing it
Hope this has helped and if you¡¦re still confused about anything them feel free to PM me, also if you feel that anything should be added PM me.
